Coorg, rightly called as the Scotland of India. Coorg also named has Madikeri or Kodagu. Coorg is a perfect year-round destination. The remote and popular waterfalls make for beautiful photographs and lush natural beauty.
 

Places to Visit in Coorg

01. Tadiandamol Peak

The highest peak in the Coorg region and the second highest in Karnataka. Trekking from Nalaknad Palace till Tadiandamol peak is a popular adventure activity in Kodagu. The Tadiandamol treeking trail is about 7 kms one way. Camping is not allowed on Tadiandamol, hence trekkers need to return before sunset. Trekkers will be treated to blissful views of Shola forest range and valleys.

02. Kumara Parvatha

Kumara Parvatha Trek is a highly recommended trekking adventure activity in Western Ghats. The trail is about 13 km long and takes somewhere between 8 to 10 hours to finish. Key attractions are Bhattara Mane, Girigadde view point, Kumara Parvatha view points, Nithyananda Sree Kailasa Temple, Pushpagiri peak.

03. Dubare Elephant Camp

Located on the banks of River Cauvery in Coorg, Dubare Elephant Camp is one of the most popular tourist spots in Coorg. Visitors can go for 03 hours elephant interaction at the Dubare Elephant Camp. Other activities like 45 minutes bath in the River Cauvery where tourists can give bath to elephants, feeding them with ragi, jaggery, sugarcane, banana and coconuts and a 45 minutes elephant ride into the jungle makes your visit at the Camp a memorable one.

04. Barapole River

The white water rafting in Barapole River is one of the most popular things to do as part of Coorg. Locally known as the River Kithu Kakathu. This stretch of river has more than nine Class 2‑Class 4 rapids. The rapids have some fascinating names like Morning Coffee, Grass Hopper, Ramba Samba, Wicked Witch and Big Bang. The real length of this run is between 3 - 4 km and the whole rafting session keeps going around 3 hours.

05. Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary

Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most important bird santuries of the world. he sanctuary is in the Kogadu (Coorg) district in Somwarpet taluk. Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary – Spot Exotic Animals like ne can spot varieties of animal species that include Indian Hare, Spotted Deer, Giant Flying Squirrel, Otter Species, Indian Wild Dog, Travancore Flying, Brown Palm Civet, Wild Pig, Indian Giant Squirrel and many more.. Birds like Nilgiri wood pigeon, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Grey Headed Bulbul, blue winged parakeet and many more.

06. Brahmagiri Hill

Brahmagiri, is a mountain range in the Western Ghats of south India. It is situated on the border between Kodagu district. Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, lies on the Kerala side of Brahmagiri. This temple is known as Dakshina Kasi or the Kashi of the South.

Location: Manchalli, Karnataka.

07. Abbey Falls

Abbey Falls (also spelled Abbi Falls and Abbe Falls). The waterfall is on the early reaches of the river Kaveri, located between private coffee plantations with stocky coffee bushes and spice estates and trees entwined with pepper vines. There is a hanging bridge constructed just opposite the falls. Flow is much higher during the monsoon season.

08. Honnamana Kere Lake

The biggest natural lake in Coorg is located in the Daddamalthe village which is around 7 to 8 KM from Somwarpet village. Emanating stillness and serenity in the air, nestled amid coffee plantation, verdant hills, and man-made caves the lake looks emerald clear. A freshwater fall, with its striking streams of water flowing down the hills, allures not only nature lover but everyone. There is also a temple located near the fall, which attracts thousands of devotees every month.

09. Iruppu Falls

Falling from a height of 170 feet, Iruppu Falls is a sight worth remembering. A popular place to visit in Coorg, this waterfall catches everyone’s attention not only with its mesmerising beauty but with its thundering sound as well. The Falls are also known as the Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, derived from the name of the tributary of Cauvery which starts from these falls, the Lakshmana Tirtha River. There is a temple called Rameshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located on the banks of the Lakshmana Tirtha River, enroute to the falls. It is said that Lord Rama himself installed the Shiva lingam inside the temple.

10. Nagarhole National Park

Also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park this park is named after the Nagarhole (Cobra) river passing through its rich tropical forest cover. This park was declared the 37th Tiger Reserve of India in 1999. You can find Tiger, Leopard, Asiatic wild dog and Sloth bear, Asiatic Elephant, Gaur, Sambar, Chital, Muntjac, Four horned antelope, Wild pig, Mouse deer and South-western langur. Flora 182 type Trees, 18 type Grass. 32 types Mammals, 270 types Avifauna, 167 types Butterflies, 31 types Snakes, 2 types Crocodiles, 13 types Amphibians, 9 types Fishes.

11. Namdroling Monastery / Golden Temple

The Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery (or Thegchog Namdrol Shedrub Dargye Ling), is the largest teaching center of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. Located in Bylakuppe. the monastery is home to a sangha community of over five thousand lamas (both monks and nuns), a junior high school named Yeshe Wodsal Sherab Raldri Ling, a religious college (or shedra for both monks and nuns) and hospital.

12. Raja’s Seat

Raja seat literally means “Seat of the Kings”. Located in the town of Madikeri, it is a beautiful place presenting a refreshing setting and soothing environment. The sunset and sunrise make for a mesmerising view which is worth captivating in your cameras. The Gandhi Mantap is the place where remains of Mahatma Gandhi have been kept. There is an area for children’s amusement as well making it a perfect place for family outing. The toy train which goes around the raja seat attracts not just children but adults as well.

13. Cauvery Nisargadhama

An island formed by River Cauvery, Cauvery Nisargadhama is popular for a one-day trip in Coorg. Filled with dense bamboo groves, sandalwood, and teak trees, deer, rabbits and peacocks roam about in their natural habitat. One can reach the island through a hanging rope bridge. Regular elephant rides and boating trips are also arranged. Deer Park and rabbit park are major attractions for both children and adults.

14. Talakaveri Temple/Waterfalls

It holds high religious importance as well and thus attracts hordes of religious tourists. Talakaveri is said to be the source of River Cauvery. There is a small spring called as a tirtha kundike or Brahma kundike. It is believed that the river originates from this spring. This spring apparently flow underground and emerges after a short distance. Near the kundike, there is a shrine. In front of the shrine, a huge tank has been built where pilgrims take bath and offer prayers.

15. Nishani Motte

Nishani Motte for the trek of a lifetime. One of the lesser-known weekend treks from Bangalore, Nishani Motte is a significant part of the Tala Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary of Karnataka. The trek is approximately 15-km long and the trails are quite unexplored. Nature is found in abundance all through this beautiful trek. The trek starts from the base of Coorg Tala – Cauvery Forest ranges.

16. Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple

This Kerala style temple is situated at the confluence of three holy rivers - Cauvery, Sujyothi, and Kannike. The confluence is famous as Triveni Sangama and is a very significant pilgrimage site. The temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya, Lord Narayana,  and Lord Bhagandeshwara and is said to be more than a thousand year old. If you attend the Pooja, the priests would explain the brief meaning behind every action and the historical story of idol installation.

17. Omkareshwara Temple

The temple is in the Indo-Saracenic style, combining typically Keralite tiled roofs with Islamic domes and is about 1km from the Madikeri bus stand. Its four corners are surrounded by four turrets. Near the entrance door of the temple, a linga has been installed. Another attractive architectural feature of the temple is the water tank in front, which is inhabited by various different varieties of fish.
